Founding and early years

Kansai Christian School was founded by six Christian mission organizations* in the fall of 1970 for the purpose of providing an education in the English language to children of missionaries in the Kansai region.

Classes were originally held in an old home that once belonged to missionaries located on the campus of the Ikoma Bible College.  It was an intimate setting for a tight-knit Christian community of teachers and learners.  For nearly 40 years KCS called the campus of the Bible college home, steadily growing into a complete elementary, middle, and high school.

* The founding missions were the Evangelical Free Church of America, Japan Mission, the Evangelical Alliance Mission, North American Baptist General Mission in Japan, Christian Churches/Church of Christ, and Worldwide Evangelization Crusade

Heguri campus (2010 - present)

In 2006 extensive termite damage to the original building was discovered and the school was forced to relocate to a temporary facility on the Bible College campus.  After three years at the temporary site the Board felt as though it had reached a crossroads: close the school, or search in earnest for a new location.  After much prayer and a lot of effort a suitable location was found and funding secured to renovate an old Buddhist gravestone manufacturing facility in Heguri, Nara Prefecture.  And in September, 2010, the newly renovated campus was opened for classes.

. . .

From the outset, Christ-centered learning has been the constant at KCS.  Students engage in classes taught from a decidedly Biblical worldview and Biblical integration is a central part of all classes at all grade levels.  KCS graduates have gone on to study at top universities in Japan, the United States, Canada, Ghana, South Africa, and more.  More importantly, more than 50 years after its founding, our graduates leave KCS knowing that in Christ are hidden all treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Moving to Heguri!

In 2009 the school relocated to its present location in Heguri. The following video catalogs this transition.
