Why Choose KCS?

An Exceptional School

Our school has 1-12th grade together on one campus, teaches Christian values in each class, and emphasizes care for the individual and the importance of relationships.  We communicate exclusively in English (despite nearly all of our students speaking two or more languages), teach in composite classes, and teach to a very high level that prepares students for success at colleges or universities around the world.

We utilize the American school calendar (September - June), celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas as a whole school, and have outstanding music and theater programs.  None of this is "normal" in Japan.  But KCS is not a "normal" school - it is an exceptional school!

Low Student to Staff Ratio

Small class sizes position our teachers and students to thrive by providing opportunities for one-on-one instruction and differentiated learning opportunities, teaching native-level English skills that apply to real-world communication, and giving each student leadership opportunities.  With a roughly 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio, KCS excels at care for the individual and teaching to the needs of each student.

Truly International Community

Our current student body is made of children from 13 different countries.  They bring their different perspectives and experiences to a caring school community that is united in purpose and through the English language.  Our students come from all over the world and we prepare them to live purpose-filled lives and to continue learning beyond their time at KCS.

Distinctly Christian Education

KCS was established in 1970 as an English-language school serving the evangelical Christian missionary community in the Kansai region.  Today, over 50 years after its founding, KCS continues to provide a Biblically-based, Christ-centered and 1st-12th grade education to students from a wide variety of backgrounds.  All of our classes are taught from the biblical Christian perspective, we reinforce Christian principles in all curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities, and set aside a full week each April for teaching about Christian living.  We are a distinctly Christian school and we love our students and what God is doing in their lives!

Standards-based Curriculum

KCS curricula are based on American curriculum standards and use highly trusted textbooks and resources for instruction.  All students study the Bible, math, science, English, and social studies and participate in music and physical education.  In addition, art class is provided for elementary and middle school student and Japanese is taught in the high school.

Our students graduate fully prepared for college/university and have gone on to pursue post-secondary education at colleges and universities in Japan, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom to name a few.
